The Gates Are Open to America’s Best Private Gardens

Written by Long Island News & PR  |  15. May 2014

Long Island, NY - May 15th, 2014 - The Garden Conservancy’s Open Days program is America’s only private garden-visiting program of its kind, featuring hundreds of magnificent spaces not normally open to the public. From March through November, garden hosts across the country welcome the opportunity to learn and exchange gardening ideas, and give the public access to explore and enjoy their private gardens. Visits are self-guided, rain or shine, and no reservations are required. Admissions start at $5 per garden; proceeds collected support the national preservation work of the Garden Conservancy and other partnering horticultural organizations.

Each region offers its own special variety of gardens, totaling more than 325 locations in twenty-two states as well as the District of Columbia. For information or a list of participating regions, visit www.opendaysprogram.org or call toll-free weekdays, 1-888-842-2442.

Open Days on Long Island include the following: May 17 in Cutchogue, Flanders, Mt. Sinai, and Wading River; May 18 in East Norwich, Locust Valley, Muttontown, and Old Westbury; June 8 in Great Neck and Roslyn Harbor; June 21 in East Hampton; July 12 in Mattituck and Southold; July 19 in Bridgehampton; and September 6 in Wainscott. Hours vary at each location.

The 2014 Open Days Directory ($25.95 including shipping and handling) is the only comprehensive source for details on the 2014 season. The Directory provides descriptions, visiting dates and hours, and driving directions to each private garden. The Directory also includes one free admission ticket to any participating private garden. To purchase a Directory or to join the Garden Conservancy as a member and receive a free copy, call 1-888-842-2442 or visit www.opendaysprogram.org.
