Hempstead Man Arrested for Local Arson

Hempstead, NY - May 12th, 2015 - The Third Squad reports the details of an arrest for Arson that occurred on Monday, May 11, 2015 at 10:35 pm in Hempstead.
 
According to detectives, Hempstead Police received a call for a disturbance at a restaurant on Main Street. Upon arrival police were met by a 46 year old male victim who stated that he was in a verbal argument with defendant Jacksin Rouzard, 26, of Lent Avenue, Hempstead, who threaten his life with a knife and then fled the store. 
 
Several minutes’ later police received a call to the above victims’ home. The defendant had entered the victims’ bedroom, lit a roll of paper towels on fire and dropped it on the bed causing a fire. The fire was extinguished by a female resident. The defendant then ran outside with another burning roll of paper towels, tossed it through an open window causing a blanket to catch on fire.

The same female resident extinguished the second fire. At the time of both fires, there were three (3) children ages 2, 3 and 6 inside the home. The defendant fled the scene but was shortly apprehended and placed under arrest by the Hempstead Police Department.
 
Defendant Rouzard is being charged with Arson 2nd Degree, Burglary 2nd Degree, 5 counts of Reckless Endangerment and Menacing 2nd Degree. He was arraigned on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at First District Court, Hempstead.
