Smithtown, NY - May 8, 2015 - Suffolk County Legislator Robert Trotta praised Douglas Roman of Boy Scout Troop 565 on achieving the highest scouting rank of Eagle Scout at his recent Court of Honor.

Doug Roman’s Eagle Scout Service Project was to design and build an outdoor animal cage for Sweetbriar Nature Center in Smithtown. A similar cage had been destroyed during Hurricane Sandy. The cage is fourteen feet long and six feet high and is constructed out of wood with a cinder block foundation and a roof. It will be primarily used to rehabilitate and release injured squirrels.

“This is a very proud moment for Doug and his family especially since his father, Scott, is also an Eagle Scout,” said Legislator Trotta. “The efforts you have put forth are an inspiration to us all and I hope you will continue to stay involved with your great hometown of Smithtown,” added Suffolk County Legislator Robert Trotta.
