19-Year-Old Arrested in Hempstead After Shots Fired

Hempstead, NY - May 10, 2014 - The Third Squad reports the arrest of a Hempstead man for Criminal Possession of a Weapon that occurred on Friday, May 9, 2014 at 9:00 p.m. in Hempstead.
 
According to detectives, Hempstead Police Officers were responding to a call for shots fired on Birch Street when they observed a Nissan Altima leaving the scene.  When the officers attempted to stop the vehicle on Remsen Avenue the defendant Ralphael Brown, 19 of 358 Washington Street fled from the passenger side of the vehicle through the rear yard of a Remsen Avenue home. The officers pursued Brown and located him in the rear yard of a Roosevelt Street home where a struggled ensued as the officers placed him under arrest.  A silver 357 Ruger handgun was recovered. The investigation determined that two male victims suffered injuries from gun-shots and were transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The vehicle was impounded from the scene and driver was released. The investigation is ongoing.
 
Brown is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd degree and Resisting Arrest. He will be arraigned on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at First District Court in Hempstead.
