Long Island, NY - May 9, 2017 - In honor of National Travel & Tourism Week (NTTW), Discover Long Island will be hosting a breakfast panel of political experts from the City, County and Federal levels to shed light on the value of tourism to Long Island’s economy and provide insight on the importance of industry advocacy. Held on Wednesday, May 10 from 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. at the Melville Marriott, Discover Long Island members are invited to a morning of networking and education featuring Suffolk County Legislator, Kara Hahn, Long Beach City Manager, Jack Schnirman and Legislative Director for Congressman Lee Zeldin, Kevin Dowling.

Established by a congressional resolution in 1983, the 34th annual National Travel and Tourism Week (May 7-13), unites communities across the country to celebrate what travel means to American jobs, economic growth and personal well-being. The theme of this year’s NTTW, “Faces of Travel,” shines a spotlight on the people that make up America’s travel industry and Discover Long Island’s featured panel represents a selection of Long Islanders who are avid supporters on the region’s behalf.

“This event, in conjunction with National Travel & Tourism Week, serves to champion the power of our industry as an economic engine,” said Kristen Jarnagin, President & CEO, Discover Long Island. “Long Island’s $5.5 billion tourism industry supports more than 100,000 local jobs and, with more than nine million visitors annually, is second only to New York City in generating tourism spending in the state of New York.”

This event is exclusive and complimentary to Discover Long Island members. Media access is limited, please respond to Maggie LaCasse if you would like to attend.
