Fatal Motorcycle Incident in Freeport Leaves Merrick Woman Dead

Freeport, NY - May 4, 2015 - Homicide Squad detectives report the details of a Fatal Vehicular Accident that occurred on Sunday, May 3, 2015 at 11:04 pm in Freeport.

According to detectives, while traveling eastbound on Mill Road nearing Merrick Road, a 52 year old Merrick woman, while operating a Harley Davidson motorcycle, was in collision with the median in the roadway. As a result of the collision she was ejected from the motorcycle and landed in the westbound lanes of Merrick Road. A witnessing motorist stopped, exited his vehicle and attempted to render aide to the victim. While in the roadway, the male witness was accidentally struck by a passing female motorist who then also struck the female motorcyclist who remained on the ground.

As a result of the collisions both the female motorcyclist and the male witness were transported to an area hospital for their injuries.

The motorcyclist, who sustained multiple trauma injuries, was pronounced deceased by a staff physician at 1:55 am. The male, who sustained non-life threatening injuries to his neck and head, was admitted for observation.

A brake and safety check was administered at the scene on the female motorist’s vehicle and the motorcycle was impounded from the location.

The incident was deemed to be accidental and involved no criminality. The investigation into the accident continues and the victim’s name is not being released at this time.
