Man Arrested For DWI After Two-Car Crash That Killed Central Islip Woman

Suffolk County Police today arrested a 29-year old East Islip man for driving while intoxicated after two-car crash that killed an 84-year-old Central Islip woman.

Central Islip, NY - May 4th, 2014 - Suffolk County Police today arrested a 29-year old East Islip man for driving while intoxicated after two-car crash that killed an 84-year-old Central Islip woman.

Charles Koukalenios was driving his 2011 Chevrolet Camaro northbound on Carleton Avenue when he crossed over into oncoming southbound traffic south of Spur Drive North in Central Islip at approximately 3:30 p.m.  The Camaro collided with a southbound 2002 Buick Century driven by Mary Rogalle of Central Islip.

Rogalle was transported by Islip Exchange Ambulance Corps to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore where she was pronounced dead.  Koukalenios, of 129 Washington St., East Islip, was also transported by Islip Exchange Ambulance Corps to Southside Hospital where he was admitted for non-life threatening injuries.

Suffolk County Police Vehicular Crimes Unit arrested and charged Koukalenios with Driving While Intoxicated and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip at a later date.

The case is being investigated by the Suffolk County Police Vehicular Crimes Unit and the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office Vehicular Crimes Bureau. A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
