Central Islip, NY - May 3, 2014 - The Suffolk County SPCA has arrested a Central Islip Man on eight counts of Animal Cruelty.

Chief Roy Gross of the Suffolk SPCA said that Harry Tommy Patrick of 255 Atlantic Street Central Islip was charged with 8 counts of Animal Cruelty for having 7 adult Pit Bulls and one puppy living outside in at least 1 inch of their own feces and urine.  Some of the dogs were on chains. SPCA Investigators and Islip Animal Control workers who removed the dogs were covered in dog feces from handling the dogs, Gross said.

Three of the dogs were taken to the Veterinary Medical Center in West Islip and the rest were taken to the Islip Animal Shelter. Friday the remainder of the dogs were examined at Grady Animal Hospital.  A few of the dogs were found to be suffering from Lyme disease, severe ear infections and anemia.  Some of the dogs had open sores on their feet and pads which were covered with feces.  One SPCA Investigator said that the dog's area smelled like a cesspool.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
