Old Brookville, NY - April 25, 2016 - In conjunction with The Green Vale School’s Annual Blood Drive, the New York Blood Center visited the school’s fifth grade to discuss the importance of donating blood. The Blood Center’s “Little Doctors” program sends a representative to the school to give students information on how blood drives work and who is eligible to donate. This opportunity also affords the students to make an academic connection back to their science coursework.

“The kids really enjoyed the speaker,” Science Teacher Aisha Daley said. “This was a great introduction as we move towards talking about the circulatory system in science.”

“The presentation reinforced the fifth grade science curriculum on the circulatory system as well as helping the students to understand the life-saving importance of donating blood,” Technology Teacher Julie Rooney said. Mrs. Rooney and Aimee Adamo, a nurse and Green Vale parent, organized this year’s blood drive on campus, which collected 46 pints of blood.
