Greenport, NY - April 30, 2014 - The 3rd Annual North Fork Waiter Race will kick off in Greenport on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 10 am.  The Market, located at 44 Front Street, is hosting this unique event once again and encourages the entire North Fork to get involved. Proceeds will benefit health and wellness activities at Eastern Long Island Hospital. Spectators welcome.

The rules are simple. Waiters must reach a finish line by walking as fast as possible while balancing a stemmed glass on a serving tray. The contents of the glass will be provided by event beverage sponsor, Zico Coconut Water.

“As the owner of a health food market since 1987, I believe we can all be our ‘best’ through good nutrition and regular exercise,” says Shelley Scoggin. “I invite everyone to get involved. The event is lots of fun for both participants and spectators.  We are very fortunate to have ELIH at the heart of our community, providing top-rated care.”

The Great Waiter Race is based on a traditional race that began in Paris in 1904 to recognize the hospitality industry.  The concept has grown in popularity since its early beginnings.  Races now take place in more than 750 cosmopolitan cities around the world. (waitersrace.com)
