Taxi Driver Dies After Vehicle Strikes Oakdale Home

Suffolk County Police Fifth Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash during which a taxi driver was pronounced dead after his vehicle struck a home in Oakdale this morning.

Oakdale, NY - April 30th, 2015 - Suffolk County Police Fifth Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash during which a taxi driver was pronounced dead after his vehicle struck a home in Oakdale this morning.

Joseph Saccente was driving a taxi northbound on Shore Road when his vehicle left the road, drove across lawns of multiple homes and struck multiple mailboxes before crashing into the den of the home located at 168 Shore Road at approximately 7:10 a.m.

Saccente, 92, of West Sayville, was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore where he was pronounced dead. Preliminary investigation indicates Saccente may have suffered a medical emergency prior to the crash.

The vehicle, owned by Colonial Taxi, was impounded for a safety check. Detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to call the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552.
