Pedestrian Critically Injured in Hit-and-Run Crash in East Farmingdale

Update - May 1st, 2014 - Kenneth Wiggins has been identified as the man critically injured in a hit-and-run crash in East Farmingdale on April 29. Wiggins, 64, had been previously reported missing from a homeless shelter in Hillside, New Jersey.

Vehicular Crime Unit detectives are continuing the investigation.

East Farmingdale, NY - April 30th, 2014 - Suffolk County Police Vehicular Crime Unit detectives are investigating a hit-and-run crash that critically injured a pedestrian in East Farmingdale last night.

A male pedestrian, in his 60s, was walking on Wellwood Avenue when he was struck by a 2008 Mercedes Benz, driven by Oliver David, who was traveling southbound on Wellwood Avenue at 10:50 p.m.

David, 41, of Freeport, was attempting to stop southbound traffic on Wellwood Avenue when a second vehicle, described as an older model silver Nissan Altima, also struck the injured pedestrian and then fled the scene. The driver of the Nissan was last seen heading southbound on Wellwood Avenue in the direction of Southern State Parkway.

The victim was transported via Suffolk County Police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital where he is being treated for head and internal injuries.

David was not charged. The identity of the victim, who is undomiciled, is pending notification of family.

The investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information about the crash to contact the Vehicular Crime Unit at 631-852-6555 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
