PSEG Long Island customers in Brookhaven will continue to see crews in their neighborhood as two additional circuits are being added to ongoing FEMA reliability work. These circuits, in the Town of Brookhaven and Villages of Bellport and Lake Grove, will be the tenth and eleventh projects in the Town of Brookhaven.
“PSEG Long Island is continually looking to ensure that its customers have service that they can count on,” said John O’Connell, PSEG Long Island vice president of transmission and distribution operations. “Adding additional FEMA funded projects in the Town of Brookhaven and Villages of Bellport and Lake Grove ensures that even more customers have the upgraded and reliable service that they deserve.”
Local Reliability Projects Added in Town of Islip
PSEG Long Island is adding additional circuit reliability work in the Town of Islip. Beginning in May, the utility will be strengthening key electric circuits in the Town of Islip and Village of Brightwaters.
“PSEG Long Island is adding two new circuit improvement projects throughout the Town of Islip and the Village of Brightwaters, increasing the number of Islip residents that will have the best-in-class system reliability that PSEG Long Island is continually striving to deliver,” said John O’Connell, PSEG Long Island vice president of transmission and distribution operations.
PSEG Long Island licensed and approved contractors will be working on these system improvements for approximately five months. Work will include replacing existing wires, installing new and more durable poles and installing or replacing switching equipment to help reduce the number of customers affected by an outage.
These projects are funded through the FEMA Hazard Mitigation Assistance Program, which was established to harden electrical distribution infrastructure against future storm damage and help restore power more quickly. In 2014, more than $729 million of federal recovery funds were secured for the Long Island Power Authority via an agreement between Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), under the FEMA 406 Mitigation Program.
