Top Chefs Compete for Culinary Scholarship Cash in SYSCO LI High School Culinary Arts Competition

Top student chefs from high schools around LI will compete for scholarships.

Riverhead, NY - April 28, 2014 - Twenty top student chefs from 15 high schools are set to compete for $5,000 in Suffolk County Community College culinary scholarships in the SYSCO Long Island High School Culinary Arts Competition set for May 6 at the Suffolk County Community College Culinary Arts Center in Riverhead. The competition will begin at 4 p.m.
 
Each student will be given an identical mystery basket of ingredients and all contestants will have access to a wide assortment of additional produce, groceries, stocks, herbs and spices. Each contestant will produce two identical entrees consisting of a protein, starch and vegetable that must be enhanced by a garnish of choice and be plated on Suffolk County Community College chinaware.
 
The event is open to the public who can watch the competition from the demonstration theater via video feed.
 
Scholarships for the top two finalists and a  trophy for the winning high school will be presented in the Subzero/Wolf Demonstration Theater after all judging has been completed.
 
The first place $4,000.00 scholarship and the second place $1,000 will be awarded to the winners and will be applied toward tuition at Suffolk County Community College’s Culinary Arts program.
