NCPD reports the arrest of John Hartwig of Massapequa, 63, for a DWI-related fatal auto accident on Saturday, April 22.

Massapequa Park, NY - April 24, 2017 - Homicide Squad detectives report the details of a fatal auto accident involving two pedestrians that occurred on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 8:10 pm in Massapequa Park.
 
According to detectives, while attempting to cross Merrick Road on foot, from the north side to the south side, just east of Park Blvd., a male and a female, both 77 years old (husband and wife), were struck by an eastbound 2015 Ford Explorer operated by John Hartwig, 63, Massapequa. Both victims were transported to an area hospital, succumb to their injuries and were pronounced deceased by a staff physician.
 
Police have identified the victims as Barbara and Melvyn Glickman of Melville.
 
Hartwig, who was found to have been operating his vehicle in an intoxicated condition, was placed under arrest at the scene. He is charged with two (2) counts of Vehicular Manslaughter 2nd Degree, Driving While Intoxicated (BAC +.08) and Driving While Intoxicated. He was arraigned in First District Court, Hempstead on 4/23/2017.
