South Ozone Park Man in Custody in Connection with Attempted Hempstead Carjacking and Shooting

NCPD reports the arrest of Rahsaan Evans of South Ozone Park, 24, in connection with an Attempted Murder and Robbery in Hempstead.

Long Island, NY - April 19, 2017 - The Third Squad reports the arrest of a South Ozone Park man in connection with an Attempted Murder and Robbery that occurred on Sunday, February 05, 2017 at 11:30 pm in Hempstead.
 
According to detectives, a male victim was sitting in his 2009 Nissan Murano in front of 104 Willow Avenue, when a male subject displayed a handgun and demanded money and the victims’ car. The victim in fear for his life put the vehicle in gear and drove away. The subject fired several rounds striking the victim in the bicep. The victim was able to drive himself to a local hospital and is listed in stable condition. A short time later 911 received a call for a stolen automobile in front of 1 Long Beach Road. Upon police arrival, Officers discovered that the same subject displayed a handgun to a 26 year old male victim, took his wallet, cell phone and his 2015 Nissan Maxima. 
 
After an investigation by detectives, defendant Andre Dennis, 22, of Roosevelt was placed under arrest at 1:55 am on February 5 on Dutch Broadway, Elmont. The vehicle, a loaded .45 caliber handgun and proceeds from the robbery were found at the scene. Defendant Andre Dennis was charged with Attempted Murder, 2 counts of Robbery 1st Degree, Possession of a Weapon and Criminal Use of a Weapon. He was arraigned on Monday, February 06, 2017 at First District Court, Hempstead.
 
After a continued investigation, Third Squad detectives report the April 18 arrest of Rahsaan Evans, 24, of South Ozone Park, for his participation in connection with the above incident that occurred in front of 1 Long Beach Road.
 
A subsequent investigation by detectives revealed that Evans was present at the time of the Robbery and acted in consort with Dennis.
 
Evans is charged with Robbery 1st Degree and will be arraigned in First District Court, Hempstead on 4/19/2017.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
