SCPD: Pedestrian Killed While Walking Her Dog in East Islip Crash

Both the pedestrian and her dog were killed when a vehicle left the roadway and struck them on the sidewalk.

East Islip, NY - April 12, 2016 - Suffolk County Police Third Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a pedestrian in East Islip this morning.
 
Barbara Cottone was driving a 2007 Chrysler sedan westbound on Union Boulevard, west of Harwood Avenue, when her vehicle left the roadway, struck Skye Brunetti, who was walking her dog on the sidewalk, and then hit a utility pole, severing it, at approximately 9:10 a.m. 
 
Brunetti, 25, of 3527 Union Blvd., East Islip, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. Brunetti’s dog was also killed. Cottone, 50, of East Islip, was transported by Exchange Ambulance of the Islips to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore with minor injuries. The vehicle was impounded for a safety check.
