NCPD: Man Arrested for Stealing $20,000-Worth of Girlfriend's Jewelry

Oceanside, NY - April 9, 2014 - Fourth Squad detectives report the arrest of a Manhattan, New York man for a Burglary that occurred on April 7, 2014 at 6:25 pm in Oceanside.
 
According to detectives, Jason Batista, 27, of 410 Riverside Drive Apt. 83, returned a car he borrowed from his 30 year old girlfriend to her Waukena Avenue residence. Without her permission Batista entered her home in her absence, possibly using a duplicate key and removed $20,000 worth of Jewelry and $15,000 in cash from a safe.
 
A subsequent investigation by detectives led them to Batista who on April 8, 2014 surrendered himself to Fourth Squad detectives at the Fourth Precinct.
 
The victim’s jewelry and cash were recovered.
 
Batista is charged with Burglary 2nd Degree and will be arraigned in First District Court, Hempstead on 04/09/2014.
