Mangano To Host Regional Conference On Family And Domestic Violence At LIU Post

Nassau County, NY - April 8, 2014 - In keeping with his major initiative to combat family and domestic violence, Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano will host and provide a welcome address at the 4th Regional “Many Faces of Family Violence” Conference on Friday, April 11, 2014 from 8:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at LIU Post, Hillwood Commons Student Center in Brookville.

County Executive Mangano stated, “My administration is dedicated to combating the public health issue of family violence and will continue raising public awareness to help prevent such terrible acts. This fourth conference is another major step forward in our efforts and I thank Dr. Kimberly R. Cline, President of Long Island University, for the University’s involvement and support in promoting awareness of this very serious issue.”

In 2010, County Executive Mangano appointed a distinguished panel of individuals to serve on a Family Violence Task Force - chaired by Social Services Commissioner Dr. John Imhof. County Executive Mangano became New York State’s first County Executive to declare that “family and domestic violence are public health emergencies that threaten the lives of children and other family members.” He stressed the importance of reducing violence in our communities, emphasizing “Violence is Not the Answer.”

Evan Robbins, founder of Breaking the Chain Through Education, a non-profit organization devoted to eradicating child slavery in Ghana, Africa, will serve as keynote speaker at the conference. Several workshops will also be offered throughout the morning which addresses different areas of family violence.
