Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an air quality index value of 100 for the pollutant of ground level ozone. The air quality index...or aqi...was created as an easy way to correlate levels of different pollutants to one scale. The higher the aqi value, the greater the health concern. When pollution levels are elevated...the New York state department of health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very Young, and those with pre-existing respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. Wheatley Heights Man Arrested for Possession of Crack Cocaine, Marijuana

Oyster Bay, March 31st, 2014 - The Narcotics/Vice Squad reports the arrest of a Wheatley Heights man for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance that occurred on Sunday, March 30, 2014 at 8:45 p.m. in Oyster Bay.

According to detectives, Second Precinct officers conducted a vehicle and traffic stop of the defendant James M. Carter, 30 of 106 N 16th Street while he was operating a 1997 Dodge Dakota northbound on Spring Street. As the officers approached the stopped vehicle Carter placed the vehicle in drive and sped away. The officers recovered the unoccupied vehicle a short distance away on Shore Avenue. Detectives from the Nassau County Narcotics/Vice Squad located Carter on Spring Street and placed him under arrest without incident. They recovered a clear knotted piece of plastic containing marijuana from Carter’s front pants pocket. A clear piece of plastic containing crack cocaine was recovered from inside the vehicle.

Carter is charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 4th degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd degree, Possession of Marijuana, and multiple vehicle and traffic violations. He will be arraigned on Monday, March 31, 2014 at First District Court in Hempstead.
