40 Summonses, 7 NYS Tax Violations, and 3 Tanker Trucks Placed Out of Service During Tanker Truck Checkpoint

Checkpoint was placed at Park and Ride parking lot, south of the Long Island Expressway, at Wicks Road, Brentwood on Thursday, March 27.

Brentwood, NY - March 28, 2014 - The Suffolk County Highway Patrol Motor Carrier Safety Section, in conjunction with New York State Police, NYS Department of Taxation and NYS Environmental Conservation Police, issued 40 summonses and placed 3 tankers out of service at a fuel carrier checkpoint last night into this morning.
 
The inter-agency enforcement initiative was conducted to ensure compliance with commercial motor vehicle and hazardous material safety regulations and with NYS tax laws, and to address environmental safety issues associated with fuel tanker trucks.  A total of 15 trucks were inspected during the 6 hour checkpoint.
  • The Motor Carrier Safety Section and New York State Police issued 25 summonses for equipment violations and placed 3 cargo tankers out of service for safety hazards.
  • The New York State Department of Taxation cited 7 trucks for violations of the New York State tax laws.
  • The New York State Environmental Conservation Police issued 8 summonses for violations of the NYS Environmental Conservation Law.
