The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation will oversee the implosion of a smoke stack at the old Kings Park Psychiatric Center in the Nissequogue River State Park today. As a safety precaution travel along several roads—namely Old Dock Road from St. Johnland road to Flynn Road, parts of Kings Park Boulevard, and the hike and bike trail from Flynn Road to the Tiffany Field Soccer Field—will be closed from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

The implosion is scheduled to occur at 2:00 PM. A 1,000 foot perimeter prohibiting both vehicular and pedestrian traffic will be established around the site, but onlookers will be able to watch the tower fall from the Old Firehouse.

Be sure to check back this afternoon for the full story, including photos.
