Authorities: Woman Arrested for DWI Under Leandra's Law After Flipping Motor Vehicle in Brentwood
Brentwood , NY - March 20, 2017 - Suffolk County Police have arrested a Bay Shore woman for driving while intoxicated with two children in the vehicle after she was involved in a motor vehicle crash in Brentwood on Sunday, March 19, 2017 at approximately 6:05 p.m.
Alba Alonso was driving a 2000 Toyota 4Runner east on Candlewood Road when she apparently lost control of the vehicle and struck a curb causing the vehicle to overturn at approximately 6:05 p.m.
Alfonso and the two children, ages 3 and 1, were transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore for minor injuries.
Third Squad detectives arrested and charged Alonso, 26, of Bay Shore, with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger 15 Years or Younger (Leandra’s Law), Driving While Intoxicated and two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Alonso will be held overnight at the Fourth Precinct and will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on March 20.
The vehicle was impounded for a safety check. The investigation is continuing. Anyone with information on this motor vehicle crash is asked to contact detectives in the Third Squad at 631- 854-8352.
