Man Seriously Injured in Dix Hills Motor Vehicle Crash

Dix Hills, NY - March 17, 2016 - Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that seriously injured a man in Dix Hills today.
 
A 91-year-old man was driving his 2002 Hyundai Accent northbound on Route 231 when he failed to stop at the intersection of Macniece Road at approximately 11:45 a.m. The Hyundai struck the rear of a school bus that was stopped at the intersection. Two students and the bus driver were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip where they were treated and released. Seventeen additional students that were on the bus, all high-school age students, were not injured.
 
The driver of the Hyundai, 91, of Wheatley Heights, was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore where he was treated for a serious head injury and numerous broken bones.
 
The Hyundai was impounded for a safety check. The school bus was inspected by the Suffolk County Police Department Motor Carrier Safety Section and no infractions were issued.
