Lynbrook, NY - March 16, 2017 - In response to both a letter and public questioning from State Senator Todd Kaminsky demanding an overhaul of the Lynbrook LIRR station, LIRR President Patrick Nowakowski stated that nearly $10 million will be spent on renovations there. Advocacy to obtain funding from the MTA was a bipartisan effort from Senator Kaminsky, Lynbrook Mayor Bill Hendrick and Assemblyman Brian Curran. Each had requested the MTA repair the station, which is marked by crumbling concrete in certain areas, as well as ice-filled craters on the platforms, and other similar problems.

Senator Kaminsky issued the following statement:

"In light of the high level of ridership at the Lynbrook train station, as well as the hefty fares commuters pay, an overhaul of that station is long overdue. This is why I have fought to make the Lynbrook station a priority. Government works best when we make changes before serious accidents happen, not after - and I am hopeful that will be the case here."

In January, Senator Kaminsky wrote a letter to LIRR President Patrick Nowakowski urging him to repair the structural cracks, flooded platforms and deteriorated canopies at the Lynbrook station. During a February Senate Transportation hearing, Kaminsky also challenged Interim MTA Director Veronique Hakim on overall poor performance by LIRR as well as the state of the stations. As he questioned Director Hakim, Senator Kaminsky showed pictures of the Lynbrook station where it has been falling apart.
