Special Traffic Advisory: RFK Bridge Manhattan/Queens Ramp Full Intermittent Closures Overnight For Two Weeks Beginning Thurs. March 20th
Queens, NY - March 15th, 2014 - There will be multiple, intermittent closures of the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge ramp leading from Manhattan to Queens nightly between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. for approximately two weeks from Thurs., March 20 through Fri., April 4.
The closures will last from 5-10 minutes and are necessary for the installation of new steel beams. All work is dependent on good weather.
The work is part of the $50 million design/build project to reconstruct the 54,000-square-foot ramp, constructed in 1967. The 26-month project also includes removing the old concrete deck, replacing the steel support stringers and adding a new concrete deck.
The project began in June 2012 and is being done by contractor Halmar International and its design partner, Hardesty & Hanover. LiRo Engineers, Inc. is the construction manager. Work is expected to be completed this fall.
