A Flushing woman was arrested at her place of work in Westbury on the evening of Thursday, March 13. The Nassau Crimes Against Property Squad reports that 24-year-old Brittany Louis was taken into custody at 5:45 PM after officers entered the Chili’s restaurant at which she was employed.

Detectives say that Louis had been using a skimmer—a device used to read credit cards and steal information, also known as a wedge—to replicate credit cards customers had given her to pay their bills. Information stolen through the skimmer device was used to make purchases at a Bloomingdales in Roosevelt Field, with a total of $5438.80 taken from Citibank accounts in this manner.

When Louis was apprehended by the CAP squad and the US Secret Service she was still in possession of the wedge. She has been charged with Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, Unlawful Posession of  a Skimmer Device in the Second Degree, and four counts of Unlawfully Possessing Personal Identification Information in the Third Degree. Arraignment has been scheduled for today, March 14, in Hempstead’s First District Court.
