West Babylon, NY - March 13, 2015 - Legislator Kevin McCaffrey (R – Lindenhurst) recently spoke before the new inductees of two different honor societies (New York State Business and Marketing Honor Society and the National Technology Honor Society) at West Babylon High School.

The induction ceremony was a true milestone in not only the academic careers of these young scholars, but for their proud parents, teachers, and administrators as well.  Achieving this distinction is no easy task, as these young adults have to remain determined in their studies despite all the pressures associated with commitments to various sports, clubs, families, and their social lives.  “However,” said McCaffrey, “learning how to balance the demands of your work and personal life will allow you to explore opportunities that are sure to come your way.”

McCaffrey spoke in depth about his unique path to his becoming an elected official, and the struggles that were encountered along the way.  “Things can get hectic in your life and you may doubt your ability to tackle an additional responsibility or a job that you’re not familiar with.  That is a normal response, but you must have confidence in yourselves, and you will find a way to make it work.  Never allow a good opportunity to advance yourself pass you by. However, don’t forget to relax and smell the roses once in a while.”

McCaffrey also had the opportunity to listen to Ryan Carroll, an alumnus of West Babylon High School who recently graduated from Long Island University.  Carroll shared his story of success which started with his early struggles in college, which not only led him towards finding a passion, but also academic success and ultimately a fulfilling job.

“Seeing former students like Ryan returning to give back to their school, along with the new inductees, indicates that West Babylon High School is something special,” said McCaffrey.  “I wish everyone the best of luck, health, and success in the years to come.”
