Islip Town to Join New York State Officials in Outlining New Direction for Ronkonkoma Hub Project

Officials will propose new sewer pipeline route for $475 million retail/residential redevelopment project at Ronkonkoma LIRR station

Islip, NY - March 13, 2015 -  Islip Town Board Members Trish Bergin Weichbrodt and John Cochrane, joined by New York State officials, will recommend an alternative sewer line to connect Suffolk County’s largest redevelopment project, the $475 million Ronkonkoma Hub next to the Ronkonkoma LIRR station, with the county’s giant Southwest Sewer District at Bergen Point. The press conference will take place Today, Friday March 13, 1:30 p.m.
 
A plan announced last year by County officials has concerned residents along that proposed pipeline route. The proposed alternate route, the councilwoman believes, will spur economic growth for Ronkonkoma, Sayville and Oakdale. The press conference includes State Sen. Tom Croci, State Sen. Phil Boyle, Assemblyman Andrew Garbarino, County Legislators Tom Cilmi, John Lindsay Jr. and Monica Martinez. to discuss strategy and financing.
