Mastic Beach, NY - March 16th, 2015 - The William Floyd School District Board of Education expects to appoint Kevin Coster, the current Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Instruction and Administration, as the next Superintendent of Schools, at a special Board of Education meeting on March 17 at 7 pm. Mr. Coster will take over the position effective July 1, 2015, succeeding Dr. Paul Casciano who is retiring after a 41-year career in the district.

“The Board of Education conducted an extensive search and interviewed a number of highly-qualified candidates for the position and we believe that Mr. Coster is the perfect choice to continue William Floyd on its upward trajectory,” said Robert Vecchio, President, William Floyd Board of Education. “Before we began the search process, we asked the community for their input into the characteristics that would make a good Superintendent and Mr. Coster possesses these qualities.”

In addition to his current role as Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Instruction and Administration which he has served in since July 2007, Mr. Coster served as both the Assistant Principal and Principal of John S. Hobart Elementary school from 2003-2007. Prior to his administrative career, he was an elementary school teacher in the Longwood School District from 1998-2003.

“It is an honor to be chosen as the next Superintendent of Schools for the William Floyd School District,” said Mr. Coster. “I look forward to continue providing the best education possible for our children – as they are our greatest asset and the future,” he said. Mr. Coster added, “I am extremely grateful to the Board of Education for their vote of confidence and would like to thank my mentor and friend, Dr. Casciano, whom I have had the pleasure of working with and learning from over these past 12 years.”

As Superintendent of Schools, Mr. Coster will oversee a district with more than 1,200 employees and approximately 8,800 students in grades K-12 attending five elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school. The district offers a full-day kindergarten program and works in collaboration with local providers in a topnotch Universal Pre-Kindergarten program. Exciting opportunities and course offerings include a Career & Technical Education Program, a Research Program focusing on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), an award-winning music program, a highly-competitive athletics program, an NJROTC program helping to build solid citizens and leaders, challenging curriculum and a lot more.

Mr. Coster received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from St. Joseph’s College, a Master of Arts with a Specialization in Math, Science and Technology from Hofstra University and NYS School District Administrator Professional License in Educational Administration attained through Stony Brook University.

Mr. Coster grew up knowing the value of education, as he was one of five children in a two-teacher family. His parents’ love for education served as the inspiration for himself and two of his siblings to become educators. In continuing the tradition of a two-educator family, Mr. Coster’s wife, Tara, is a teacher in the Longwood School District. Mr. and Mrs. Coster reside in Shoreham, NY, with their three children, Trevor, Kaitlyn and Ella.
