The National Weather Service in Upton has issued a high wind watch...which is in effect from late Sunday night through late Monday night. * Winds...northeast 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph. * Timing...strongest winds will likely occur from mid morning Monday into Monday evening. * Impacts...downed trees and power lines are likely, with numerous power outages possible. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles, and on elevated roads and bridges. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A high wind watch means there is the potential for a hazardous high wind event. Sustained winds of at least 40 mph, or gusts of 58 mph or higher, may occur. Continue to monitor the latest forecasts. , "Storm Watch" ...Storm watch remains in effect from late Sunday night through late Monday night... * winds and seas...east winds 25 to 35 kt with gusts up to 50 kt. Seas 6 to 9 feet...and as high as 9 to 12 feet east of Orient Point. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A storm watch is issued when the risk of storm force winds of 48 to 63 kt has significantly increased...but the specific timing and/or location is still uncertain. Bay Shore Arrested for Fatal Stabbing in Central Islip

Suffolk County Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the stabbing death last night of a Central Islip man.

Central Islip, NY - March 10th, 2014 - Suffolk County Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the stabbing death last night of a Central Islip man.

Third Precinct police officers responded to 7 Pinewood Ave. after a 911 caller reported that people were yelling at that location. When officers arrived, they found Carlos Velasquez, 40, lying in the street with a stab wound to the torso. He was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore where he died.

Witnesses identified Wilfredo Flores of 50 Jensen Road, Bay Shore as the assailant and held him until police arrived. Flores, 28, was arrested and has been charged with Manslaughter 1st Degree.

Flores is being held at the Third Precinct and will be arraigned today at First District Court in Central Islip.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
