Two Men Arrested for Criminal Possession of a Weapon, One With Self-Inflicted Wound

Both men will be arraigned on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at First District Court in Hempstead.

Hempstead, NY - March 9, 2017 - The Third Squad reports the details of two arrests for Criminal Possession of a Weapon on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 in Hempstead

According to detectives, at 4:56 pm Hempstead officers responded to 16 Elm Street for reports of a male shot.  Upon arrival they found Michael Williams, 57, of Farmingdale with a gun-shot wound to his left leg.  He was transported to an area hospital for treatment for his injury.  The investigation led detectives to discover that the wound was self-inflicted.  Williams was placed under arrest at the hospital at 7:00 pm.  Further investigation discovered the shooting occurred in front of 208 S. Franklin Street at which time Williams dropped the gun.  The gun was picked up by Steve A. Jackson, 64, of Hempstead who fled the scene on foot with the gun.  Jackson was located by members of the Hempstead Police Department and was placed under arrest at 9:58 pm without incident.

Both men are charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd degree and Criminal Possession of a Firearm.  Additionally Williams is charged with a second count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd degree and Reckless Endangerment 1st degree.  Jackson is also charged with Hindering Prosecution 2nd degree.  They will be arraigned on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at First District Court in Hempstead.
