Long Islanders awoke this morning to Winter Storm Thor that began in the middle of the night and covered the island with a sheet of snow, which will continue to accumulate throughout the day. In Nassau County, Carle Place received over eight inches of snow, and in Suffolk, Melville topped the list with 9.0 inches.

Nearby in Manhattan 6.1 inches of snowfall was recorded at 2:05 this afternoon and in Queens at LaGuardia Airport, totals of 4.4 inches had accumulated as of 1:00 PM.
