Riverhead, NY - February 26, 2015 - Come enjoy some Irish charm with a mix of marine life as Aid to the Developmentally Disabled (ADD) hosts its 1st Annual Shamrock Shindig on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at the Long Island Aquarium in Riverhead.

The night will also be filled with fun and humor as guests are treated to comedy entertainment, Irish dancers and pipers, an Irish buffet, drinks, and private access to the aquarium.  If that wasn’t enough, our guest will witness the winner of our Shark Tank Showdown being lowered into the aquarium’s 120,000-gallon Lost City tank for a nose-to-nose swim with the sharks. Shark Tank Showdown nominees include Councilwoman Jodi Giglio, ADD Board President Vinny Barry as well as the entire ADD executive team.

All proceeds from the event will go towards ADD’s mission to create an environment in which people with a range of abilities are actively encouraged to develop and direct services that recognize their unique desires, ambitions, values and abilities. A nonprofit human services agency, ADD’s compassionate, highly trained, round-the-clock staff work in partnership with the people they serve, their families and the local community to deliver this vital mission.

“ADD is excited to be launching this new event that promises to be fun-filled for all our guests,” said ADD Executive Director Donald Rieb. “The unique ambiance of the LI Aquarium, along with all the entertainment will assure a spectacular night. The most notable part about this event is knowing it will help support all of the people that utilize ADD’s wonderful programs and services in all 30 of our residences.”

About Aide to the Developmentally Disabled
Aid to the Developmentally Disabled (ADD) is a nonprofit organization that was established in 1980 by family members who were concerned about the physical and emotional decline of patients who lived in crowded institutions. These family members believed that appropriate treatment and training in a warm, sheltered, homelike environment would enhance their physical and emotional growth. With the support, funding and licensing of New York State’s Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities (OMRDD) and the Office of Mental Health (OMH), Aid to the Developmentally Disabled came to life.

In 1984, ADD opened its first residential program in Riverhead and has grown into a multi-service organization providing residential programs, supported apartments, clinical supports and case management services for the mentally challenged, mentally ill and dual diagnosed adults. ADD presently operates 30 residential programs in locations throughout the North and South Forks of Eastern Long Island, with several additional programs in the planning stages.
