Riverhead, NY - March 4, 2014 - A live-in maid working at a West Islip mansion who was arrested for killing her newborn baby girl is scheduled to be arraigned on a grand jury indictment in Riverhead tomorrow, Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota said.

Following an investigation by police homicide detectives, Santos Elena Ruiz Solano, 26, was arrested for second degree murder on February 20. “Her first story to detectives was that she wasn’t pregnant and did not give birth…and she then changed her story and claimed she had delivered the baby on her own but that the baby was born dead,” said DA Spota.

The Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner determined the infant was born alive and died from “blunt impact injuries of the head”, the DA added.

Complications during birth compelled the defendant to go to the hospital. The baby’s body was found in a plastic bag in the garbage. Hospital personnel called the police.

Solano, incarcerated since her arrest, will appear before Judge Stephen Braslow (third floor of the courthouse) who will unseal the indictment Wednesday.

The court calendar will be called at 9:30 am .
