Hauppauge, NY - March 1st, 2016 - On Monday, February 29th, Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker joined Presiding Officer DuWayne Gregory, Suffolk County Police Commissioner Time Sini, and Legislators Kata Browning, Robert Calarco, and William Spencer at a press conference at the William H. Rogers Legislature Building to raise awareness and announce increased measures to address the housing fraud crisis in Suffolk County.

Throughout the county, there has been an increase in incidences of people who misrepresent themselves as property owners to rent homes to tenants, robbing them of rent, security deposits and a place to live.

Often, these homes are vacant and in foreclosure. While the county works to address the issue of vacant homes, the Suffolk County Police will be cracking down to ensure that criminals operating out these homes do not take advantage of unsuspecting tenants.

“I applaud the police for taking action against these criminals, but most importantly, I urge residents to report any suspicious activity in their neighborhood to the police.” said Legislator Anker. “We must work together to improve our community. If you see something, say something.”

To report suspicious activity in your neighborhood, please call the Suffolk County Police at (631) 852-COPS or (631) 852-2673.

To address any concerns regarding the housing fraud crisis, please call Legislator Anker’s office at (631) 854-1600.
