20 Year Old Ronkonkoma Mother Arrested Under Leandra's Law After DWI Crash with 2 Year Old in Car

Suffolk County Police have arrested a Ronkonkoma woman for driving under the influence of alcohol with her child in her vehicle following a motor vehicle crash.

Hauppauge, NY - February 29th, 2016 - Suffolk County Police have arrested a Ronkonkoma woman for driving under the influence of alcohol with her child in her vehicle following a motor vehicle crash.

Rashelle Mann was driving a 2006 Nissan Altima eastbound on Middle Country Road when she made a left hand turn in front of a 2014 Toyota Rav4 that was traveling westbound on Middle Country Road.

Mann’s son, 2, who was in the vehicle at the time, was transported via Nesconset Fire Department ambulance to Stony Brook University Medical Center for evaluation but did not appear injured.

The driver of the Toyota, Cindy Tran, 20, of Hauppauge, was also transported to Stony Brook University Hospital with minor injuries.

Mann, 26, of Ronkonkoma, was charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger 15 Years Old or Younger (Leandra’s Law), Driving While Intoxicated, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.  She is scheduled to be arraigned today at First District Court in Central Islip.

The child was released to a family member.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information about this crash to call the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452.
