Mastic Beach, NY, February 27, 2013 – The William Floyd High School Interact Club, a youth division of the Rotary Club of Shirley and the Mastics, collected 250 pairs of new and gently used jeans to benefit homeless children on Long Island through the 7^th Annual Teens for Jeans Drive sponsored by Aéropostale and DoSomething.org.

Keeping with the Rotary Club slogan “Service above Self,” Interact Club members advertised their collection drive and set up boxes in each of the district’s school buildings for two weeks to collect jeans for children from all age groups. The donated jeans will be delivered to a local Aéropostale and distributed to Long Island children in need.

“We participate in events like this because we care,” said Interact Club President, Kristie Guerriero, a WFHS senior. “It’s all about making someone's day a little better. Interact members participate with one common goal – to help others. It means the world to us and gives us a sense of accomplishment and pride to know that we helped 250 homeless students on Long Island.”

“The William Floyd Interact Club has been participating in the jean drive for four years,” said Elizabeth Reising, a WFHS social studies and Interact Club advisor. “I am really proud of our members and the William Floyd family for once again coming together for such a great cause.”

The William Floyd High School Interact Club has more than 55 members and participates in community service projects throughout the year including Rotary Club food drives, the pancake breakfast fundraiser, the “Light the Night” walk to raise funds to fight Leukemia and Lymphoma, the annual UPK Christmas party, March of Dimes walks for babies and more.
