New York, NY - February 24, 2015 - On Tuesday, February 24th, Reps.  Steve Israel (D-Huntington), Joe Crowley (D-Queens, the Bronx), Hakeem Jeffries (D-Brooklyn) and Kathleen Rice (D-Garden City) will demand that House Republicans pass a clean Department of Homeland  Security (DHS) funding bill and stop playing politics with Americans’ safety.  DHS funding is set to expire at midnight on Saturday, February 28th, which will result in the furlough of thousands of employees and force employees who must remain on the job in order to protect American lives to work without pay. It will also result in a halt of research and development on counterterrorism measures. The Members will discuss the disastrous effects of a lapse in DHS funding and their solution to fund the department, which could pass immediately if House Republicans would allow a vote.
