Uber Driver Assaulted and Left Unconscious By Passenger, Arrest Made

Bellmore, NY - February 19, 2017 - The Seventh Squad reports an arrest for an Assault which occurred on Sunday, February 19, 2017 at 1:15 am in Bellmore.

According to detectives, Phillip Gannotta, 23, of North Bellmore and two friends ordered an Uber car service from Massapequa Park to a North Bellmore address.  The Uber driver took the three passengers to Bedford Avenue and Sunrise Highway in Bellmore at which time an argument ensued between Gannotta and the driver, a 23 year old male.  Gannotta exited the car and began kicking and punching the car, breaking the rear passenger side window.  He then proceeded to strike the victim in the face several times with a flashlight, and kicked the victim causing facial fractures, rendering the driver unconscious.  The victim was transported to an area hospital where he is listed in stable condition.  The suspect surrendered to detectives at 3:10 pm at the Seventh Precinct.

Gannotta is charged with two counts of Assault 2nd degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th degree and Criminal Mischief 3rd degree.  He will be arraigned on Monday, February 20, 2017 at First District Court in Hempstead.
