Bay Shore Driver Arrested for DWI after West Babylon Motor Vehicle Crash

West Babylon, NY - February 12th, 2014 - Suffolk County Police arrested a man for driving while intoxicated after he was seriously injured in a motor vehicle crash in West Babylon last evening.

Stephen Kokser, while traveling on the southbound ramp of Route 109 from westbound Sunrise Highway, lost control of his 2006 Nissan X-Terra. The vehicle overturned and crashed onto the southbound lanes of Route 109 at approximately 8:30 p.m.

Kokser, of Michigan Avenue, Bay Shore, sustained a serious injury to his arm that was pinned under his vehicle during the crash. He was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital and is listed in stable condition. Kokser’s passenger, Christopher Santiago, 40, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip where he was treated for minor injuries.

Kokser, 49, was charged with Driving While Intoxicated. The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing.

Detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash and has not been interviewed to contact the First Squad at 1-800-854-8152.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
