The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for Long Island, with a Winter Storm Watch in effect from 12 AM Thursday through 6 AM on Friday on Long Island.

Light snowfall is expected to begin late this night and carry over into Thursday morning, with most accumulation occurring after 3 AM. A mixture of snow and sleet is expected to continue through 9 AM, with the possibility of precipitation turning into rain later in the day before converting back into snow Thursday evening.

A total of 4-8 inches of accumulation throughout the storm has been predicted by the NWS. High temperatures will peak around 34° tomorrow with winds between 15 and 25 mph and gusts up to 40 mph. The high will rise up to about 40° on Friday, but there is also a slight chance of more snow falling at night.

A Coastal Flood Statement was also issued for both the North and South Shore alongside the other winter weather warnings.

“Low pressure will deepen offshore late Thursday and Thursday night... resulting in increasing northeast winds and elevated tides across the region,” the NWS said. “Areas of minor coastal flooding during the times of high tide late Thursday into early Friday are therefore expected.”

The flood statement is in effect from 1 PM Thursday through 7 AM Friday.
