Bay Shore, NY - February 12th, 2014 - On March 6, Alzheimer’s Disease Resource Center, Inc. (ADRC) will be hosting its 2014 Alzheimer’s Disease Education Conference & Expo “Caring with a New Perspective” at the Melville Marriott Long Island, located at 1350 Old Walt Whitman Road in Melville. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is being presented by the Lillian and Mark Lane Alzheimer’s Disease Education Center. This year’s Presenting Sponsors are Winthrop Hospital and The Bristal Assisted Living.
The event will include a discussion panel, breakout sessions, and local exhibitors. Dr. Scott Noggle, Director of New York Stem Cell Foundation Laboratory and the NYSCF-Charles Evans Senior Research Fellow for Alzheimer’s Disease, will share his latest research findings on Alzheimer’s Disease using stem cells. A caregiver discussion panel moderated by Ellen Tolle, RN, will host Patricia M. Lazazzaro, author of My Love, which chronicles her husband’s struggle against Alzheimer’s Disease. In addition, ADRC’s Legal Advisory Committee will present “The New Long-Term Care Landscape — Benefiting from the Changes.”
This year’s luncheon keynote speaker, sponsored by Royal Healthcare Services, is Emmy-award winner Barry Petersen, CBS News Correspondent and author of Jan’s Story: Love Lost to the Long Goodbye of Alzheimer’s. Mr. Petersen will be discussing the book and his many experiences while taking care of his wife, who struggled with young-onset Alzheimer’s Disease at the age of 55 before her passing. He is an avid supporter for Alzheimer’s research and donates 10% of the proceeds from his book to Alzheimer’s programs and research.
Following the luncheon will be more breakout sessions, an ice cream social, and a plenary session showing/screening of the film The Genius of Marian. The movie documents the filmmaker’s mother, Pam White, through her early stages of Alzheimer’s Disease. The film’s producer, Banker White, will appear via Skype.
The conference has already been approved for Continuing Education credits for Nursing Home Administrators, Social Workers and Recreational Therapists.
