Riverhead, NY - February 10, 2014 - The postponed sentencing of convicted arsonist Harry Fleischmann Jr. before Judge John Illiou in Riverhead will be held Friday, February 21.

Fleischmann, convicted of arson, burglary and criminal possession of a weapon charges, will be sentenced to 18 years in prison, Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota said.

Fleischmann started a fire in Eric Carver’s home to destroy evidence of his burglary of 156 Lake Drive in East Patchogue on December 27, 2012.

Carver was overseas when his house was broken into and nearly completely destroyed by fire. A New York State Trooper and member of the Air National Guard, Carver was on active duty at the time in Africa with the 106th Air Rescue Wing.

Fleischmann stole Carver’s off-duty handgun, some ammunition, a generator, and the homeowner’s Chevy S-10 pickup. He used gasoline he found in a backyard shed to start the house on fire, DA Spota said.

Trooper Carver is expected to attend the sentencing.
