Washington, DC - February 7, 2017 - Capping off a highly productive first month in Congress, Rep. Tom Suozzi (D - Long Island, Queens) was named Vice-Chair of the bipartisan Congressional “Problem Solvers Caucus.” The coalition is made up of 20 Republicans and 20 Democrats who will meet regularly to try and actually solve problems.

“When I was campaigning for office, I repeatedly spoke about my desire to create a ‘band of doers.’ I wanted to bring Democrats and Republicans together to actually get things done,” said Rep. Suozzi. He added, “The ‘Problem Solver’s Caucus’ is exactly what I was looking for. I ran for Congress, not because I was looking for a job, but because I wanted to do a job. Only by working together with Democrats and Republicans can we address some of the serious problems our nation faces.”

“I will remain vigilant to speak out against those aspects of President Trump’s agenda that I simply cannot support, but we must find ways to get some positive things done.”

Rep. Suozzi was also appointed as the only New York Democrat to the important House Committee on Armed Services. The far-reaching committee maintains oversight over our nation’s defense, including military spending and readiness. Rep. Suozzi also serves on the House Committee on Foreign Relations.

“Our district is home to several defense contractors, a U.S. Coast Guard station and most importantly, a state superfund site – the Bethpage Plume – where the U.S. Navy and Grumman are the responsible parties,” said Rep. Suozzi.

“I will do my best to make sure our Armed Services are properly funded, that our men and women in uniform are treated with the respect they deserve and our people and our country are safe. I am humbled by this honor and responsibility.”

Rep. Suozzi represents New York’s 3rd congressional district. He took office in January 2017 and is the former County Executive of Nassau County.
