West Babylon Man Arrested for Mobile Check Depositing Scam

The Crimes Against Property Squad reports the arrest of a West Babylon man on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at 8:00 p.m. for Grand Larceny that occurred in Massapequa.

Massapequa, NY - February 5th, 2014 - The Crimes Against Property Squad reports the arrest of a West Babylon man on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at 8:00 p.m. for Grand Larceny that occurred in Massapequa.
 
According to detectives, the defendant K-mel Griffin, 18 of 86 Essex Street opened a savings and checking account in the Bethpage Credit Union located at 6257 Sunrise Highway in November 2013. Griffin deposited checks from closed accounts into the account via mobile banking. He would then withdraw the money causing a loss in excess of three thousand dollars ($3,000.00) to the bank. Detectives located the defendant on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at his residence and placed him under arrest without incident.
 
Griffin is charged with Grand Larceny 3rd degree. He will be arraigned on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at First District Court in Hempstead.
