Long Island, NY - February 8th, 2013 - Mara Navaretta of Woodbury, NY and her realty, Homes By Mara of Syosset, NY have ended 2012 with the spirit of giving while extending that spirit into the New Year. Supporting those impacted in the devastating wake of Hurricane Sandy, Homes By Mara agent Linda Freedman of Syosset, NY spearheaded a successful coat drive that generated nearly more than 1,200 coats, along with some toys and much needed essentials. Cartons for the coat drive were donated by H.L. Large of Syosset, NY, which were used for delivering the coats over the holidays to children and adults affected by the storm in Long Beach and The Rockaways. Continuing their dedication to supporting those in need, Navaretta and her agency recently kicked off the New Year with the presentation of a check donation in the amount of $1,000 for Children’s Brain Tumor Foundation (CBTF) that resulted from a percentage of commissions collected among her and participating agents. This donation stems from a commitment that Navaretta and her agency made to support the non-profit organization at the beginning of 2012, which resulted with CBTF receiving a total of $1,500 from Homes By Mara by end of last year. Just as last year, Navaretta and Homes By Mara intend on making multiple donations to CBTF throughout 2013.

"It is important that businesses today remain aware and sensitive to the issues impacting our communities and that we each do our part to help make a difference," says Navaretta, whose work with The Children’s Brain tumor Foundation was driven by inspiration over personal friend Fred Adlman and his wife, Bonnie, who tragically suffered the loss of their daughter Jill in 1990 due to brain tumor. "As a mother with a nine year old of my own, I am amazed over the strength and courage demonstrated by the many families out there who are faced with having a child diagnosed with a brain tumor and it is our honor to be able to extend our support to them. Our hearts also go out to the many families who have been affected by Hurricane Sandy, which is why there was no hesitation when it came to sponsoring a coat drive on their behalf. "

"After seeing the devastation of Hurricane Sandy, I wanted to do something that was going to be meaningful and make a difference," says Freedman. "It was so wonderful to not only sponsor this drive but also have the opportunity to personally deliver the collected coats to the children and adults we were doing this for. Seeing their smiles and appreciation was truly the greatest reward."

Freedman adds that businesses should be socially aware and responsible. "It is so important for business professionals and companies to be community minded," explains Freedman. "It really does take a village so we all need to make our mark and think beyond our day-to-day business by considering the needs of both our surrounding and extended communities and lending support when and where needed."

Founded by dedicated parents, physicians and friends in 1988, Children’s Brain Tumor Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is to improve the treatment, quality of life and the long term outlook for children with brain and spinal cord tumors through research, support, education, and advocacy to families and survivors.
