Crime Report: Two Men Charged in Eastport Home Invasion, Eight Arrested for Selling Minors Alcohol
Two Men Charged in Eastport Home Invasion
On December 8th, 2013, two masked men broke into an Eastport home and shot the two residents inside after demanding cash.
The situation quickly went awry and Francisco Pirir, 45, was killed after being shot in the face with a shotgun. The other male victim, Cipriano Pirir-Patzan, was shot in the hand for trying to hold the door closed while the two burglars attempted to break in.
The suspects fled the scene following the shooting.
Suffolk County police apprehended one of the alleged shooters more than a month later on Sunday, January 9th. Paul Batterson Jr., 22, of East Moriches, was charged with Murder in the Second Degree. He plead not guilty to the Grand Jury. His partner, the alleged gunman, Matthew D. Rooney, 22, of East Moriches, surrendered himself yesterday to the Riverhead Court and also plead not guilty. He was charged with Murder in the Second Degree, and Assault in the First Degree.
Batterson is due back in court on February 28th, and Rooney will return on March 6th.
Eight Arrested for Selling Minors Alcohol
The Third Precinct Crime Section conducted an investigation in 29 establishments looking to find clerks selling alcohol to minors. Of those 29, eight were accused of violating the law.
Most of the arrests were made in Bay Shore. Murat Kucukaltun, 34, of Gulf Gas on Pine Aire Drive, Sabit, Akyol, of Gulf on Fifth Avenue, and Malik Hunes, 45, of Citgo, were the three Gas Station attendants in Bay Shore arrested. The other two were Muhammed Khan, 32, of Village Market, and Ricardo Negrete, 39 of Brightwaters Wine & Liquor.
Two arrests were made in West Islip. Certin Aybali, 36, of USA Gas, and Abdul Qureshi, 57, of Oak Neck Wine were arrested for allegedly selling alcohol to minors.
The final arrest was Ranbir Singh, 66, of Parmar Liquors in Islip.
Each clerk was charged with Unlawfully Dealing with a Minor in the First Degree. They were issued a Field Appearance Ticket and are scheduled to appear at the First District Court in Central Islip at a later date.
