Woman Arrested for Assaulting Police Officers After Traffic Stop for Petit Larceny

The Fifth Squad reports the arrest of a Roosevelt woman for Assault of a Police Officer that occurred on Thursday, January 26, 2017 at 4:20 p.m. in Elmont.

Elmont, NY - January 27, 2017 - The Fifth Squad reports the arrest of a Roosevelt woman for Assault of a Police Officer that occurred on Thursday, January 26, 2017 at 4:20 p.m. in Elmont.

According to detectives, Fifth Precinct officers received a call for a larceny that just occurred from CVS located 1797 Dutch Broadway and that the female subject fled in a black Toyota Yaris.  Officers located the vehicle on Hempstead Turnpike and Hendrickson Avenue and conducted a traffic stop.  When removing the defendant, Jonita Martinez, 27, of Roosevelt, from the vehicle an officer observed Martinez drop a marijuana cigarette.  As the officer went to retrieve the marijuana cigarette the defendant struck the officer in the face.  When officers were attempting to place the defendant into custody she continued to resist and started kicking and flailing her arms causing them to fall into a fence injuring one of the officers.  The defendant fell to the ground and kicked another officer in the chest.  Officers gained control of the defendant and placed her under arrest. 

The officers suffered a laceration above the eye, chipped bone (elbow) and pains to the chest.  Officers were transported to a local hospital for treatment their injuries.

No other injuries were reported.

Martinez is charged with two counts of Assault 2nd degree, Petit Larceny, Resisting Arrest, Criminal Possession of Marijuana and Disorderly Conduct.  She will be arraigned on Friday, January 27, 2017 at First District Court in Hempstead.
