Long Island, NY - January 27, 2016 - Buses will replace train service on the Port Washington Branch between Great Neck and Port Washington on Saturday, January 30 from 1:22 a.m. to 5:37 a.m. for Sperry Rail Testing and the cutover to a new branch substation. The Sperry Rail Car, a bright yellow vehicle fitted with ultrasonic and induction test equipment, is designed to detect internal rail defects not readily visible to the eye which are immediately replaced. The Sperry Car is used twice a year to inspect approximately 500 miles of LIRR track. The work will result in the following service changes.

Eastbound

Customers traveling to Manhasset, Plandome or Port Washington will board a bus or a van at Great Neck station to travel east arriving up to 27 minutes later than usual depending on their destination.

Westbound

Customers traveling from stations Port Washington through Manhasset will board a bus at their station to travel to Great Neck for a connecting train to continue their trip west. Customers should expect up to 31 minutes of added travel time depending on destination. The train ordinarily scheduled to depart Port Washington at 5:39 a.m. will be replaced by bus service departing 10 minutes later at 5:49 a.m. stopping at station to Great Neck where train service resumes.
